Angostura
Rums
- Trinidad &
Tobago
In 1932 a great
fire destroyed the
Trinidad and Tobago
Rum Bond. Master
blender J.B Fernandes
seized this opportunity
and bought the charred
cask of rum.
To his surprise
he discovered that
this rum had aged
and matured magnificently.
This prized discovery
was skillfully blended
and called 1919
- after the year
it was casked.
With the declaration
of WWII in 1939,
Trinidad and Tobago
troops volunteered
to serve in Europe.
Fernandes decided
to send a bottle
of the rum to each
of our airmen serving
overseas. Thanks
to his generosity
this product became
known in the wider
world - and our
1919 super premium
rum came to symbolize
the spirit of Trinidad
and Tobago.
1919 is a marvelous
añejo made
from a blend of
light and heavy-based
molasses rum, aged
for a minimum of
8 years in charred
American oak barrels.
In addition to its
rich golden-amber
hue and excellent
clarity, it is remarkably
soft and well rounded
as the rum glides
over the palette
without a hint of
harshness or biting
edge. Within moments
it opens up with
a wide array of
toasty flavors and
a warm and relaxing
finish.

Rhum Vieux Labbe
- Haiti
Haiti has known over thirty brands of rums, since 1765. Today there are only a couple left, and they still follow family traditions originated from Cognac, France.
Haiti's rums are still aged in oak barrels as the French method for cognac. This is why Berling S.A produces selected rums to assure its quality and is proud to offer Vieux Labbe premium rums in memoir of Labbe Barbancourt grandfather of late Jane Barbancourt, who was married to Rudolf Linge a perfume maker in France, who had settled in Haiti during World War II.
Today their son Herbert Barbancourt Linge, President of Berling S.A, still preserves original formulas, well kept secrets created by his ancesters.
Our premium rums are the results of special distillation processes, blending and the art of aging until it has matured and mellowed into a spirit of sophistication.
The premium rums likewise have grown and adapted to the outside world's taste for fine flavored liqueurs, which we produce, while maintaining its Caribbean identity, such as Coffee, Anisette, Coconut and Orange from our famous orange peels that have been exported for more than 50 years to produce famous liqueurs such as Cointrau.
For those who like some cream in their coffee, we have developed a new line of cream liqueurs called Cremas. Actually there are three flavors, Coconut, Rum raisin, and Cocoa.
We did not forget beach lovers with our unique Berling Cocktail rum punch made out of a blend of tropical fruits.

St
Lucia Distillers
- St. Lucia
In 1922, the Barnard family
purchased the large sugar estate
of Dennery. Ten years after
that purchase, the young Denis
Barnard founded a distillery
at Dennery and in 1972 merged
the Dennery Factory Co. Ltd.
with Geest Industries Ltd. in
Roseau Valley to form the St.
Lucia Distillers Group of Companies
which now operates from Roseau.
Denis’ son and the grandson
of the original owners of Dennery
is the current Managing Director
of St. Lucia Distillers.
Over the years,
the family-run factory has been
considerably modernized and
new technologies and improvements
constantly incorporated. After
Angostura Ltd. of Trinidad and
Tobago (producers of the World
famous Angostura Bitters) bought
a 24.9% stake in the company
in April 1998, a new bottling
line was commissioned which
enabled the Distillery to blend
and bottle a wider range of
specialist rums and liqueurs.
The installation of a pot still
in 1998 has also meant that
especially high quality flavorful
rums, still being aged, are
now being produced. The company
has since introduced two more
pot stills adding to the variety
of rums being produced.
In 2005 CLICO
Holdings Barbados Ltd. purchased
the Barnard family shares and
intends to continue the traditions
established by the Barnard family
with Laurie Barnard remaining
as Managing Director.
St. Lucia Distillers
is very proud of its reputation
as a producer of over twenty
five of the highest quality
rums and rum liqueurs in the
Eastern Caribbean and of the
awards and prizes our rums have
won.
